In July 2008, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) registered the temple ruins of Preah Vihear in Cambodia as a World Heritage Site. Preah Vihear is a stone archaeological site of the Khmer Dynasty (6th-15th centuries) built on a cliff protruding into the sky, located in the Cambodian territory 400 km north of the capital Phnom Penh. As a “temple floating in the sky” with a large green emerald forest underneath, it boasts the rare scenery in the world.
